The conventional route for steel production produces high emissions of greenhouse gases. Biomass can be applied in steelmaking to reduce these GHGs emission. Application of biomass in steel industry will be discussed in this study. In this paper evaluation of three dimension of sustainability assessment of biomass use will be presented. The social, environmental and economic dimension of biomass use in steelmaking will be done with life cycle approach. This paper adapts LCSA (life cycle sustainability assessment) methodologies to undertake an analysis of the sustainability dimensions of steelmaking technology. In this study will be included biomass production and replacement of fuel by biomass in steelmaking. Additionally eco-efficiency analysis of biomass use in steelmaking will be done.
